That the Mayan calendar has a few dates that stretch past 2012. Is this true?

If it does happen, what may cause it? Be releastic, i'm talking about stuff that still may happen even though we can rule out a number of possiblities.
 
This is awesome, for a second I thought it was going to be a real Astronomy question, but again I was drawn into another 2012 question I see..

Anyhow moving on, 2012 will be another year with 2013 being there for us to see it... Other posters above me gave much more technical data and deserve best answer over me.

Though I will give you credit that your question was perhaps a real 2012 question rather than just focused on the DOOMSDAY....
