I was fed up with the social environment at my current job. I went out to dinner with a former co-worker and he suggested I apply to his company. I submitted my resume, did a few phone interviews, and gave them a desired salary that would be a significant raise. Very recently the situation at my job has changed dramatically, as in a few people were walked out. Now the other company wants me to come in for a formal interview. I have a very unique skill set and after talking with the new company I am 99% sure the interview will include an offer. However my faith in current company has been restored. New job at my requested salary would pay 10% more. But I have over 6 years with my current company and the commute is much shorter. I want to stay where I am, not string along my friend's company, but get paid more as well. How do I pull that off. Right now I am compelled to call my manager and let him know the situation.
