I find the Egyptians interesting, but I wouldn't want to read a book about them. But, I find the complicated political systems of the Renaissance interesting too, and if you can translate truth into the novel, then I would read it.
Write what interests you. Don't write about a political era if you hate politics, and don't write about an era thriving in art if you haven't a clue who the artists were at the time.
