That's hard to do with just one line. Give yourself a paragraph or two. Readers usually aren't shallow enough to give up if the first line isn't gripping enough for them. Look at some of your books at home though. Read the first few lines. Are they really that interesting? In most cases, no.
People seem to think that the only way to get someone hooked in the story is to start out with someone running through the woods in the dead of night or just finding out that someone died or something. I just looked at a couple of my books at home and some of today's best sellers don't start out any more exciting that a breakfast of eggs and toast. Give yourself a break. If you're story is really that good people will give you at least three pages to say something worthwhile.
