I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to do photography and maybe help plan weddings as well (i did mine in 2 weeks and it turned out great). I am not sure about the kinds of courses involved. Would I need to go to a 4yr college for photography or do they have things like this at a tech college. I kinda looked around here online at the tech schools but didn't see anything under photography and found one at 4yr and sent an email but never got a response. Also could I ask a former photography teacher (who still does pictures) to maybe show me the ropes. And what if anything would I need to do to plan weddings, just start with family and send out information after I have done a few. Thanks in advance

There are schools with a 2 year course (college) probably some with one year. You will learn a lot from it but it wont help you get more work. Like the other person said, it is all about marketing. That is the hard part.
You could contact some local wedding photographers in your area and see if they need an assistant. You can then go out and assist them for free just for experience and see how they do it. You could also probably take a night class or some kind of a workshop in photography.

Marketing.
Lots of people can take good pictures, you'll make a successful career by convincing consumers to use your services as opposed to someone else.
