I want to trade my car in and my wife says NO!?

A year ago I received a TON of hail damage to my 2008 subaru and at the time we were saving for our first house so paying the deductibles were out of the question to fix it. We saved our money and bought our house. About 3 weeks ago I was hit in a parking lot and received a decent chunk of damage to the rear fender of my car. Finding out my deductible was 1k I left it alone! I recently found a preowned 2005 pontiac GTO for 18k at a local dealer. I test drove it and fell in love! I asked them to value my trade in ( subaru ) and they came back with 14k! I was so excited that they gave me this much money for the car seeing that the damage is very severe - They wouldn't budge on the price of the GTO however, but I feel their price is fair. All said and done I would be paying 10 more a month for the Pontiac. My wife says the car isn't practical ( we have no children) and I dont need it!! Period. I tried explaining to her that paying for a car all beat up isn't a nice feeling and I rather start fresh then and pay for a car I actually like! Besides someone is paying me a good chunk of money to take it off my hands!!!! I know that the car isnt great in the snow and living in NY we would need a decent driving car for the snow! She has snow tires on her car so we are fine! She just doesn't want me to have it so she is sticking to her ground!! I know if I go ahead and get it, she will think I did it behind her back ( its her money too!) but I just want to dump the car and start again. I also dont want to start a fight with her and getting it just in spite! What do you guys think?
