I want to start hiking and i know nothing about what i should get...?

I really want to start hiking, but i am really a amateur and i want to start doing some more complex tracks. I really don't have the necessary items like clothing and materials to start. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should get.

Any help would be great.
 
My son got videos when he was younger from the library. He hiked part of the Appalacian Trail. He would have lived out there if he didn't have to come back home for school. If you can't find any good videos to answer your questions e-mail & let me know. I can get you in contact with him. Make sure you tell me the title of your question so I can come back & know what this is about.
 
you should get some hiking boots warm sweaters and stuff likenorth facess and cargo short or pants depending on the weather.
 
join a group or an organization for hiking. there are lot of hiking orgs and clubs. search in the internet.
 
get some good outdoor catalogs and go through them and decide if you need what they have...the more you hike the more you will come to realize whether you need a certain item to get by or not... try these guys http://www.campmor.com
