I want to save some pictures on a CD but the CD is a DVD-R, will it work?

I have one that is DVD+R and I have about 4 that are DVD-R. Can I use them to save pictures/videos on to them? Or is it another type of CD that I need to get?
 
It would be best to just get a CD-R or CD-RW (Rewritable CD). Your computer has to have a DVD burner in order for your computer to be able to burn things onto a dvd, and I'm guessing yours doesn't because most computers are not outfitted with the burners. Hope this helps! :)
