I want to make a very small small solar garden light.....?

I have a 1.5v solar panel (very small, equivalency of AA Battery!), I want it to turn on a small light socket, but have it only be on at night. During the day, I want it to charge some C or D batteries, to power the light at night. I also already have a photovoltaic cell, so it knows when it is dark.

I do not want to have one of those regulators/controllers things because they are expensive!
