I want to learn the tango....?

Most classes rotate partners anyway, so those who come with a partner don't spend much of the class dancing with that partner anyway. If it weren't done that way, you'd run the risk of learning to dance with your partner but not be able to dance with anybody else.

Well if you go to private lessons like I do, then you will just dance with your instructor. "It takes two to tango." Lol. But if your doing a group class, yes, they usually rotate and there are usually other single people there that don't have partners. That is not a problem at all! I don't have a boyfriend/partner either and it is absolutely fine!!!! And I LOVE argentine tango! Which are you doing? American is nice too though...
But don't let that stop you from doing tango because tango is the best dance ever!!!!!! Good luck dancing! :) I'm sure you will do great!

I dont have a boyfriend at the moment though the tango is a two person dance. If i take a tango dance class for beginers, how do they work that sort of thing out?

They'll just pair you with anyone who doesn't have a partner. It's a dance class, and you guys will be learning to dance- it's not about feeling awkward so close with someone who you're not intimate with. It's just learning to dance.

Most classes don't require you to bring a partner. Usually the females rotate (or the men can) so everyone has a different partner each time. Even if you brought a male friend, you would still have to rotate so you each get a chance to dance with different people. This is important so you get a better understanding of your role as lead or follow, because everyone dances differently and it helps you to adapt and become a better dancer.

What tango are you interested in, Argentine or American? I'm decent in American but Argentine scares me off (so intimate!), lol. Good luck and have fun!!
