i want to learn how to surf, but don't want to be a poser?

i have a surfboard and am getting a wetsuit soon so i can go out and work on my surfing, i'm not that good cuz i'm a beginner and i don't want to look ridiculous and be a poser. do other surfers laugh at ppl who are just starting out? cuz i know i'll probably be wiping out alot when i try to go for bigger waves and i don't want ppl laughing at me. its very discouraging
