I am 25, have a crappy job and am going nowhere, so I want to join the US Army. The thing is, I don't want to join a peace time force. I don't have romantic, unrealistic expectations of war, but if I join and train to fight, I want to fight. Now, Iraq is stabilizing, Afghanistan is stabilizing. I am overweight, it will be at least 4 months (realistically) before I am in good enough shape to join up. Then I obviously have to go to basic and AIT. Am I going to be too late? Will I miss the opportunity to be in a real war? I am not blood thirsty, but if I join, I want to be deployed and fight. If I join now, am I going to miss out on that and just be a peacekeeper?
