I want to join the Army, how does the whole enlisting and then going to army academy

work ? so if i go to a recruting office and sign a contract to enlist do they then send me through training or to the academy for liek 6 months then from that where do i go, do i get to pick what i want to do like what other things can i do besides going out in combat and killing people if thats not what i want to do please no mean answeres i wouldnt mind going to combat but im just curious what other options i have in the army after the academy
