If your previous loans have gone into the default state then it's too late to do anything and you will NOT be eligible for ANY Federal or State financial aid until the debt is paid in full.
Another thing to think about: whether or not you're working is irrelevant at this point and believe me the government has the ability to garnish any future wages you may have, keep your income tax refund, and ruin your credit rating for decades by reporting the defaulted loans to all the credit reporting agencies.
If you had just stayed in touch with your lender you could have perhaps prevented this from happening by doing a loan payment deferment.
Your Student Aid Report WILL come back to all schools that you entered codes on the FAFSA form for and right across the front page will be a big highlighted IN DEFAULT STATUS.
