the schools keep stressing how important it is to take many AP classes in high school, and do well on them, and also to take academic classes, like math and science, all four years. but since i only want to go for the arts, are the academic classes quite as important??
im asking because the more AP classes i take, the less room there is in my schedule to take extra art classes.
im about to be a sophmore by the way.

All Ivy League Schools want students who take hard courses. You should take the required academic classes at the highest level and foreign languages that Ivies want. In order to display your artistic talent take whatever space you have left for arts and focus on arts in your extracurricular activities. No matter what you study you still will be held to high academic standards. So excel in both arts and academics because even if you are a great artist it won't make up for a less than stellar academic record unless you are famous or the best in the world.

They don't care what your major is going to be. You have to meet academic requirements. And that means math, science, and english at honors and AP levels.
Yale had over 19,000 applications and only accepted 1,911 of them. They will take the best of the best regardless of what major the student is going into.
