I've had my current phone for 5 years, and its starting to die. I am a secondary line, so I don't think the new every two or rebates on upgrades apply to me. To further complicate things, I am only about halfway through my current contract. Since I want to upgrade, I want to get a smartphone, like this one:

Is there anything I might be able to say to convince a Verizon rep to waive the early contract-cancellation fee and possibly the "required" data plan of 30 bucks a month? Its not something I think I want to pay for just yet, though I'd like to have the option in the future. Since the phone I want is wi-fi supported, I don't think not having the data plan would make a huge difference for a bit.
