I want to get a bottom feeder for my fish tank?

i have a fire bellied newt in quite a large tank for its size and i would like to put another fish in with it. i asked my local pet shop who specialise in fish if they would fight and they said no, but the guy that i know well in the shop wasnt there and this guy didnt seem like he wanted to help so does anyone have any ideas of bottom feeders that are unlikely to be any trouble? any help will be great!
 
Newts are predatory and are really best in newt-only species tanks. Not with fish! If they can try and eat it, they will. Not to mention they are very messy, while they can get out of the water, fish can't and would suffer.

If you chose a suckermouth fish like Plecos there would also be a risk of the Pleco sucking on the body of the Newt if it stayed still long enough.

Keep your newt in a newt-only tank. They need more of a terrarium set up anyway.
