I want to change the gmail account on my phone - issues

I've really not liked the gmail account I setup so I successfully created another one that has a more meaningful name. Now the problem is switching my phone to use that. I'm not sure if this will cause more problems

1. Google voice - how do I switch the phone number that I have under my old google account to the new one
2. Paid apps, is there a problem if I switch the phone over
3. Contacts

I'm probably more concerned about trying to move the phone number and/or activating google voice on the new account then anything else.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have Google Voice, so I can't answer (1), but...

2) Your paid apps will be associated to your old GMail account, and there's nothing you can do about this. On the plus side, the apps you have paid for and are still installed on your phone will remain working on your phone as they are, but you won't be able to update them without paying for them again.

3) You can export then import your contacts using the GMail website to your computer. Log into your old account online and go to Contacts -> Export, and then log into your new account and go to Contacts -> Import).

On some phones it's possible to change accounts quite easily by simply clearing the data on all of the GMail applications from the Settings menu, then going to the GMail app and it will ask for new details. Other phones can run the setup wizard again by using ADB or creating a special shortcut with AnyCut or BetterCut. I don't recall off the top of my head how to do these. However, on SOME phones you have to do a factory reset. If you do that, you will lose all your paid apps for good and you will have to purchase them again.

One avenue you might want to explore, is that I understand you can add other email addresses to your Google checkout account. I don't know how to do that, but, maybe there's a way to combine your two GMail accounts into one if you associate them like that. I'm guessing here though...

Ahh thanks, so it probably makes more sense to keep my existing gmail account on my phone because the apps are tied too it.

Not a huge deal, I have my own domain/email address that is my main email account so I can live with my current gmail account

Thanks
Mike

It may take up to 2 weeks to process (though most of the time it's within 2 days).

- Request will not be processed if the requested target account is a Google Apps account
- Request will not be processed if the pin is incorrectly specified
- Request will not be processed if the target account already has a Google Voice account (unless you explicitly specify that you want the other Google Voice account destroyed)
- All greetings and recorded names will need to be re-recorded after the transfer.

You make the transfer request here:
