i want to change a color from a photo image?

i want to change a color from an image having different colors and i would like change to single color without affecting the background color, is there any editing software.
 
For that kind of work I'd use GIMP. It's free and is quite good. Obviously it doesn't compare much to photoshop, but for hobby stuff then it works quite well. Theres plenty of tutorials on youtube
