I want to buy a Suzuki GS500 F, but I need some HELP!?

I am 18 years old and I want to buy my first bike (most preferably a Suzuki GS500 F). I know I could handle the insurance on a monthly basis and I know that I can buy the bike eventually but the sooner the better. I still need to get my license, but that also will not be a problem.

I do not have any credit yet and I want to get it started. What will they make me pay as a down payment, most likely, with my situation? And how much a month do you think they would want me to pay? I know insurance with be (for me) around $60-90 a month. Can anyone give me an idea of what I'll have to pay? :) Thank you!

For smaller purchases in life, like motorcycles, you're really better off to pay cash. The whole "credit score" racket is really a sham until you're buying a house. At that point, you can still get a good loan if you've got 20 percent or more of the purchase price to put down as a cash payment toward the loan.

Suzuki might finance you, and they might not. Banks and some car and bike dealers are getting tight with their money with the economy the way it is.

I'd suggest you look around for a gently used GS500F. These bikes are popular beginner or around-town bikes for people who don't want to be scared to death by the modern-day sportbikes or lug around a heavy bike in town. You could probably buy a good used example for $3,500-$4,500 if you look carefully. Repairs and maintenance on these bikes are fairly easy to perform, and spare parts are plentiful.

Start saving up your money, and in the mean time, book yourself to take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation beginner's RiderCourse. If this is your first experience riding on the road, this class will teach you life-saving (and bike-saving) skills. It was the best $175 I ever spent-- and it has saved me more than that on my insurance as my insurer offers a discount for people who have taken an MSF course.
