is now a good time? I don't need to finance
I am worried about the future resale value of the HD, if HD goes bankrupt, the value of that bike is lost forever, or if the go bankrupt, replacement parts will either be nonexistent, or very expensive, or the warranty will be worthless.

What do you think?
 
Recessions are a BUYERS market.If you have the money make your best deal.
HD (NYSE HOG) is an Iconic brand their value is less subject to market forces. If HD doesn't make the parts someone will.

finance now? no.

if you can pay cash, you'll get a great deal, but financing is tight at most dealerships.

i don't know why, but HD's do seem to hold their value well. the build quality of Harleys has fluctuated for the last 30 years, but they have ALWAYS had a solid marketing campaign. To be blunt, I think HD is boarding on becoming a clothing line who also happens to sell motorcycles. You buy the image more than the bike. It's really quite a brilliant marketing strategy.

I can't stop you from wanting a HD, but you could probably save yourself $20,000 and buy a bike that performs better from one of the Japanese manufacturers. Sure the HD will 'hold its value' better, but you save the $20k up front iwth a metric bike. your 20k will gain interest if you keep it now. your bike will only depreciate.
 
No, you should build your own Harley. That way you aren't indirectly funding all the companies that make the small chrome accessories for them in China, Canada, Taiwan, etc.

ROTAX IS NOT owned by bombardier. Bombardier buys BRP Rotax products from austria. BRP-Rotax GmbH & Co. KG, commonly known simply as Rotax, is an Austrian engine manufacturer. Bombardier is a long-time Canadian manufactuer, Rotax is an Austrian manufactuerer.
