...it?Can a X crossmember be installed? How about using a sub-frame running front to back custom crossmembers tied into new front/rear crossmembers(1 at each end)?how will this affect handling once I build truck around it? Thinking diesel engine, 5 speed manual transmission, NP203/205 Transfer case(using adapter),Rockwell 2.5 ton axles, leaf springs( 12 in. arch), Rancho shocks, 44 inch tires and a K5 Blazer body.
OK I will. No sub-frame
 
It will not affect handling except for making the vehicle heavier. Why a sub frame? Why not plate the inside of the frame (box) and call it good? If you want to beef it up, install a frame mounted roll cage.
I hope you either have good fabrication skills or a deep pocket.
