i have loved reading books all my life. i have decided that i want to be a author, what qualifications do i need to have? my gcse english is grade c.

Read a lot, and write a lot. That's really all you need to do and you will improve your writing.

Simply start writing. Write essays about familiar things and try to improve constantly. When you have done this a while, try writing some short stories.

WRITE!! That's where you start. If you have an idea that is. If not keep reading for a while do things that help you think. Reading helps a LOT when you want to write. Once you get your idea don't worry about the "introduction" just write what you've got on your mind down. Make your characters and start writing. There's a thing called the recursive process. Meaning you will rewrite what you write trust me. It just makes it better. good luck.

you don't need any qualifications but to be a good writer you need to be good at grammar so i'll say pay close attention your grammar and try to get that grade up to a B or A also if you have any writing classes take them and practice writing fan fics those are great and where you need to start is think of the genere of the book you want to write write them down then plot them out and start to write and edit

just remember this while doing so believe and have faith and inspiration and motivation those things are just so important and can make or ruin and break your story i hope you to the best of luck in this field

P.S. please answer my question and thxs!

you read and read and read.
you become inspired. you get an idea
then you write.

haha, you wanna talk English grades?
I always hated formal writing...unless it was about a story I loved...or it was creative writing (and maybe a term paper)....I actually got a D in Composition. That's an elective xp
though....part of that grade was from slacking off and just talking to friends in the computer room....

But, if you have talent to write, school isn't really necessary. School is there for the basics. The rest, writers figrue out on their own.

I suppose she could get into journalism.
I've always hated that kind of writing.
It depends on what kind of author you want to be.
And I should clarify this.
If you want to be a creative writer, you just need an idea and time to type it.
If it's journalism you want, then that is different. There are schools for that and papers that hire for that kind of writing.
If this is true, then grades do matter. You need a good college to get into for journalism.
I'm a creative author. I really don't need college. That's why I'm taking the year off.
That's why I never worried about my English grades...or ane other grades for that matter.

If you know what kind of writer you want to be, certain requirements are attached to it.
So what kind of writer are you?

What do you mean? You can't "apply" to be an author.
You just write and if you're good enough you can drop an actual job (academic job), you can be a professional author.

read thersuaruses and dictionaries. watch moviees, classics, read plays, study poetry. get into journalism and get some practice writing for like a school paper. take extra language and communications classes. RAISE YOUR GRADES!

Just start writing. Short stories, love letters to nobody, summaries of movies you've seen or books you've read, complete with some of what the characters said. This will give you practice describing things and dialogue. If you have an idea for a book (which I assume you do or you wouldn't have asked) get started on it. Just get writing!

If you want some education to back it up, an English degree will be a big plus. Some agents won't even consider working with an author who does not have a Master's of Fine Arts in creative writing degree. These aren't necessary (untrained writers, including me!, get published all the time), but the education will improve your writing, inform you on the writing and publication process, and (more importantly) give the agents and publishers an indication that you are serious. You can also make use of networking opportunities through the school you attend.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong: write because you love to write. Just remember that the business end of writing and publishing is just that: business! And a tough one at that.

Creativity, writing that sounds good and makes sense, and someone that's willing to publish a book. Or you can self-publish, there's this site where you can buy a copy of your own book, and get a bar code to sell it, like to amazon. I don't know the name but when I find out I'll edit.

writing...
I mean, not to sound obvious but just write stuff! Even if it is completely random. Free write for a little while. If you post on here, lost of people give very good opinions.
