I want more power for my ford ranger 2.5. Should I mod it or drop a V8 in it?

Its a 2000 Ford ranger with a 2.5 sohc engine. Its 2wd with a 5 speed manual transmission

It would be way cheaper to buy a truck that already has a V8 in it. But.... if it was mine, and I had the time, I'd build a SB 427ci V8 Ford engine and install it. It will take some mods to do this upgrade, including new rear-end, new transmission, new custom drive line, engine compartment mods and possible new or custom cross member.

Here's a short block: http://www.competitionproducts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=427FFT

You can build this cheaper than buying this kit by buying just the "stroker kit" and having your own block machined.

Buy a chevy.....and if you choose to stay with the ford how much work do you want to do?

keep it in good running condition, following maintenance... if that's not good enough buy a ford F-150 or a dodge dakota they both have v8 engines. if your compare all the money you would spend on doing modifications to a ranger and the price of a used v8 truck in good condition, it would be about the same.
