The Higher Authority

He grew up knowing the responsibility he would have to bear, the knowledge he would have to share, the protection he would have to give and with whom he would have to live. He was the one that guided me through the good times and the difficult times, the moments of joy and the moments of grief. Knowing all of this, he still stood tall, as he is my big brother.
My Brother is the kind of person that anyone can look up to and say I would like to be like that. Born with big brown eyes, dark brown hair and dark skin, he looked nothing like anyone in our family. For a moment, my father was suspecting that my mother was having an affair with someone else.
My brother grew up to be the most stubborn and annoying child that any parent would love to avoid; laying on floor of all the shops they entered, whining and crying until he got what he wanted. If you could get awarded for seeking attention, he would have won the Nobel Prize by now.
Things got a lot more complicated once I was born. All the attention he used to get suddenly shifted towards me. If I would have had feelings back when I was a baby, I might have felt sorry for him. But in a way you could say that I was the best thing that ever happened to him. As my brother was not the “favorite” anymore, he slowly accepted the fact that he was growing up and would have to become more independent.

Independent he became. Some might say he took it to an extreme, but I would have to disagree. This was most likely the biggest change in his life; going from a stubborn, whiney kid to become the brother that I grew up to know.
The brother I know would become the best martial arts student in our city and a genius in mathematics. What is better than having a brother who can kick ass and do your mathematics homework? Well at least that is what I would have wanted him to do, but apparently I also had to learn it the hard way.
As my parents were busy working to provide us food and shelter, I became my brother’s main responsibility. He hated the idea of having to spend most of his time with me, while all his friends were hanging out somewhere else. But he also enjoyed the fact that he had the higher authority and could order me to do whatever he wants.
At first he made me suffer, by giving me extra homework on top of the homework that I would have for school. I hated mathematics and he made me do high school math problems with letters and symbols, while I was still in elementary school trying to multiply numbers. I felt like he was torturing me for taking all the attention away from him, but later on I grew up to find out that all the things he told me to do helped me later on in life.
