So is your phone carrier Alltel or Verizon? As a general rule of thumb, you won't be able to activate a phone from one carrier to another (e.g., if you still have a phone from Alltel, Verizon will probably not activate it on their network). It never hurts to ask, though, so I would ask someone at your carrier's local store to see what their poicy is for that.
