I am a beginner and I have never rode a motorcycle. I don't want anything too fast for my first bike. I will probably get something faster later on, after I gain some experience.
Kudos for wanting to start out small! That's a good thing to hear! If you're pretty big person a 250 might not be for you though due to it's small size.
You should take the MSF course (it's the law) to make sure bikes are for you, and it's something you really want to do.
But to answer your question the 250r is a great bike all around.
yes, perfect beginners bike, its lightweight enough if you drop it you can pick it up yourself, or if the bike falls on you, you won't be crushed, super reliable, will never break down, great gas mileage, up to 75 mpg, and a great resale value, as gas prices increase, that bike increases in value, (everybody wants one)
