i used a flash drive and i dont know why it made a wierd code?

so i typed a word 7 document and saved it to my flash drive. Then i tried opening it to my other computer which only has word 3 and it came up as a wierd code?
yet when i opened another document typed on word 3 onto my word 7 computer
it came up! help
 
Gee. This is a really tough one!

Word processing uses encoding to define various structures that are in the document. Text sizes and fonts, styles, pictures, etc...

A "7" version would be expected to have newer encoding techniques then a "3" version.

It's also reasonable that a "7" version would be able to read not only the latest encoding schemes, but any previous encoding schemes such as, oh let's say, a "3" version.

Is your answer forming in your mind?
