i turnmy headlights on on my 86 pontiac grand am, and dash lights go out, what makes

this happen?
was kinda thinking there is probably a short to, ill check fuses and i know the dimmer is up lol
 
There is a day/night setting to your lights. When you turn on headlights it automatically dims the dash lights so it could be related to that and not fuses.
 
sounds like you have a short somewhere. Follow your wires and see if you have any wires touching or crossing anywhere. I know its a pain but electrical problems are never simple
 
Check or replace fuses., $20 tops. Don't take it in for something so little or when you get your car back you will have way more problems.
