I trying to rember the author or the name of a book I read?

I got arrested a few years ago when I was in Japan looking for my wife or the woman I think of as my wife who mysteriously has vanished after getting in a scuffle with a homeles man who teased me, and I was in jail for 21 days, there were only three books written in english in there, one I read several times as I thought it was quite interesting, it was about a serial murder mystery about this pilot whose marriage had failed and was killing girls who were engaged to prevent anyone from getting married, he was obviously a sick individual, and there were other people helping him in society, including a police officer, in the end his plane crashes because he becomes confused by a herd of animals or something he sees near the gyspy campground I think, I wish I could rember the name of that book. for some reason the word flower or green or something maybe in the title or on the book cover. The book was written I would guess in the sixties or seventies, I also remeber I found a cell phone number written in that book, Leslie was name associated with the phone number, the only male person I ever met named leslie was a dea agent or dea informant who worked at Umaine buying marijuana from people and I think was a student at Bates. I know becuse he caught me also this way back in 1996, this made me think how did that book end up there? was leslie in jail in Japan? or just a andom coincidence?
