If you used the audio output jacks (and not input jacks), then it should work. My guess is that you are trying to send the sound "out" but those are really input jacks. There aren't many current TV sets that feature audio "output" jacks.

If it is indeed output jacks you're using, it should work with no problems.
 
...not work, how can I connect? no sounds come out from my stereo which made me think I need a converter of some sort.
It is actually my Xbox and digital cable. And you are right I am connecting through my HDTV. I will hook the re/white directly up to my stereo--thanks for all your help!!!!!
