I tried to change the flat tube from the bike wheel. I bought...?

a 1 3/8 tube because that is the dimension that I read from the wheel. Now I noticed that about 8 cm (20 inches) from tube are left out, so I have to fold that part. I also notice the previous tube was also folded in two. It's curious. Either that is a normal thing or something is wrong. What do you think?
it's an old bike
I mean the tube is too long
interesting idea Merrick , I mean 8cm (3 inches)
it's a 26 x 1 3/8

The reason it may be folded is because when the tube is full it expands and takes up more space in between the rim and the tire. when the tube is pumped up and installed it should be fine.

p.s 8 cm doesn't equal 20''

I gather that you bought a tube for a 20 x 1 3/8 inch tire and that you have to fold the tube over on itself about 3 inches.

If this is so, then it's not normal. But if it worked for the previous tube, I guess it'll work for this one. Something is wrong here tho.

Reminds me of the time I bought a 26" tire at WM because the old tire was marked as a 26". Wouldn't fit. Took my problem to the local bike shop. He said you gotta go by the mm numbers on the tire, not inches. Weird.

ya im not sure that I understand but some bike can be a pain. what you should do is put a little air in the tube first to get the creases out but do put to much in just to get a little shape out of it. then you can work it in with more ease. start with the schroder or presta valve put that in then get your tube in there then work one side of the tire on to the wheel then the other. and make sure the tubes the right size. you can cheat a little with putting a little smaller Tube in but not a bigger one that may lead you to a pinch flat.
hope this helps

Not sure I understand...if some of the tube is "left out" or short, missing, then why would you have to fold it? It sounds as if the tube is too long the way it's described. 1 3/8 is the width of the tire. You also need to know the size which should be on the tire as well (20", 26", etc.) This doesn't sound normal although depending on the bike's age perhaps the correct size is no longer made and common sizes must be tweaked in order to work.
