A few years back, my father got into an argument with my mother and I overheard it. It was over my mother and how she abused pain medication and took it when she didn't need it any longer. (She's had different medical problems throughout her life and has been prescribed them here and there. She doesn't have any major problems that I know of at the moment, by the way.)
Back when she was taking them, she was extremely moody, irritable and would get a bit out of hand with her anger. The mother I remember from the young childhood was not present anymore. She didn't know that I knew about her problem, but one day told me that she and my father had a discussion and she might be going somewhere in the evenings because she needed help. Well, she never went through with this "help" she spoke of (I'm assuming some sort of counseling).
Five years later, she still has her horrible temper (and I mean horrible...) and has began to demonstrate to me that her problem might be back. She'll sit in her chair, lean forward to stretch/relax her neck and start sinking forward more and more in the middle because she starts falling asleep/passing out. I'll be talking to her while she's sitting in her chair, and then she'll slowly close her eyes and drift off to sleep. Sometimes she'll be doing something with her hands and begin to drift off to sleep- her hands in the air beginning to slowly sink down into her lap as she starts to dose..or she'll start scanning through the TV Guide and stop mid-way due to falling asleep. This happens A LOT, mind you. When I tell her what she's doing, she'll just say "I'm just relaxing my neck!" or "I'm tired! I haven't had any sleep and I've been running around all day!"....
She locks up all of her medication so I have no clue what she takes. Also, there is no way I could find out either seeing as I don't know where she keeps her key. If I were to be caught, there would probably be a lot of trouble. This subject is an absolute no-no when it comes to discussion topics. Like I said, she has a horrible temper and blows up at the slightest things. If I tried to "sit down and tell her how I feel", I'd most likely be kicked out.
Do you think there might be a chance that she still abuses and how would I go about finding out?
