I Spit on Your Grave

I've managed to avoid seeing this before but as Zone Horror was showing it, I thought I'd have a look.
What a piece of amateurish crap! Sub-porn acting, no one speaking in close up unless the camera pans away from them, cast of unknowns who, deservedly, still are. Can't believe the fuss it caused when it was new. :o

Given that you saw it on British telly, you can probably still say you've avoided seeing it, as it would no doubt have been cut to pieces.

Given that they even cut the anodyne Tales from the Crypt series I wouldn't be at all surprised.
At least cuts would make ISOYG a bit shorter. It's the reason fast forward was invented. :)

They would be breaking the law if they showed anything bar the BBFC version.
As that is cut by 6 minutes, all the material that makes the film the notorious movie that it is ,has all gone.
Virtually all the nasties were amateurish efforts with substandardness in every department.
Thanks to the police and BBFC over 50 films that would have disappeared overnight for being complete crap were highlighted for the British Public to seek out.
ISOYG without its nasty bits is just another piece of trash.
Its also trash in its complete form, but more interesting to watch

What is it with these films that get banned in the uk cause theyre to violent etc then eventually get released theyre all pants, Texas chainsaw massacre, I spit on your grave, Natural born killers to name three i though all three of these films were not that good when i saw them and wondered why they should of been banned. Maybe cause its sencored versions i have seen that were cut to shreRAB.

I thought it was good, i have this on dvd i think, i have so many i forgot which ones i have.

I only bought this on dvd because it was banned and was good, they where right it was good. She got her revenge at the end which she should of anyway, if she didnt then no one would like this movie at all.

Well I got the DVD too, also because of the notoriety and when I watched it- I wish I hadn't bothered.
I think there were a slew of stinkers like this in the early days of vhs and all, when viewed now, look just like what they are cr@p!!

The revenge sequences are nothing.
The only nasty bit to make you wince is the bath sequence, but even then its not explicit.
The other revenge scenes are tame compared to stuff allowed today.
To those who think its nothing, remember ,unless you are watching an import version then the whole thing is cut to shreRAB and a waste of time.
Natural Born Killers was also cut.
Although the unrated uncut version came out on R1 I'm not sure if the R2 is uncut or whether its still the cinema version.
Chainsaw Massacre has never been cut in the UK.
It had a very limited cinema release in 1974,then a video release in the early 80's which was deleted (not banned) and eventually got re-released in 1999/2000.
All of these versions were uncut.
The BBFC actually rejected it outright in 1974 but Westminster Council overruled them(as they can still do with cinema releases, but not dvd).
Various distributors discussed releasing it in the 90's with the BBFC,but thanks to James Ferman it was never officially put in for certification as he told them it was pointless.
This was also the case with films like The Exorcist,Straw Dogs,Evil Dead and others.
No sooner had James Ferman been kicked out of the BBFC than most of these famous films were speedily certificated
and put on dvd.
JF obsession with chainsticks also meant that Enter The Dragon was finally released uncut to dvd once he was gone.
Some films he kept away like Death Wish did get a release, but were cut and DW has only now been finally passed uncut, although its 1974 cinema release was uncut

UK TV stations can still show films in there original uncut cinema form whether or not its been cut or banned on video. Any film which has been certified by the BBFC for cinema release can be shown.

Channel 5 are a prime example of this ruling as they premiered Natural Born Killers while it was still banned and they've shown cinema cut version of films such as Lethal Weapon 2.

Ive seen the uncut version and its rubbish. Totally over the top rape scene that was there to shock, but didnt and the revenge wasnt much cop either. Prehaps if the people in the film could act it may have been a bit better.

I think you will find that Ofcom rules specifically state that tv stations are not allowed to show uncut versions of films where the BBFC have censored them.
This rule is applied quite sensibly and various channels have shown films uncut where censored versions were trimmed years before.
Lethal Weapon 2 being a prime example.
Film 4 recently showed Reanimator uncut although its always been badly cut in the cinema and on video, but that was cut years ago and following advice they were assured that when the film is resubmitted it would be left uncut.
Natural Born Killers was a cut version on FIVE.
And it was not shown on FIVE before its cinema release which was cut anyway.
Bravo screened an uncut version of Romeros Dawn of the Dead years before the dvd got through uncut, and even BBC/ITV have shown longer versions of films where perhaps a 15 version was released on video and the networks showed the 18 version.
But the Ofcom rulings of recent years are clear enough and if films are cut in the 18 category for dvd/cinema then showing the uncut version on tv would break these rules.
The versions available for tv are the dvd versions.
Its only in the last few years that rulings have appeared anyway.
In the 90's there were no rules stopping tv from showing anything they wanted as the BBFC had no say in the matter.
But realising that screening controversial films uncut was a legally dubious area Film Four ,on many occasions reluctantly showed censored versions of films.
And even today, while the BBFC may cut a horsefall in an older film ,these rarely get removed on tv
