I Spit On Your Grave 2010 to be censored in the UK

Apparantly 43 seconRAB of cuts were made according to the BBFC website all relating the rape scenes. The link now no longer works so i don't know if that means the BBFC have pulled it or another version has been resubmitted. It's terrible that in this day and age new release films still get censored.

I almost bought the original DVD recently and thought it was now available uncut? I don't know what I think about rape scenes as most seem dodgy , "Straw Dogs" is overrated tripe with an offensive rape scene but I don't think there's much point in cutting out the scene.

Just be glad that they didn't go to town on this in the same way as they did for 'A Serbian Film' which will be butchered by nearly 4 minutes if the BBFC actually decide to give it a classification. Both ASF and I Spit... were supposed to be at this years FrightFest, but were pulled when censors forbid them from screening them unless they were cut.

From the reviews that i've read it seems as if it's a hell of a lot better than the original film (which is admittedly crap).

It's not fully uncut, the cover says that it's "the most complete version ever released in the UK", but it's still definitely cut, they've just waived cuts to a few of the more minor scenes.

You're correct here. A lot of reviews say the remake is a much better film and it's really well done and essentially is a good film. So for it to be cut this is pretty rubbish!

Funnily enough i saw 'Enter the Void' last night from Irreversible director Gaspar No

Don't bother, LC. The original has er... been hacked to bits. So much so, that it really doesn't make a whole lotta sense any more. Mind you, there was f*** all plot to begin with.

This is the "Box Of The Banned" version.

Straw Dogs is a superb film.
What is offensive about the rape scene?

If you find that offensive I'm guessing you've not seen I Spit On your Grave uncut?

But there's no need to fuss about the cuts anyway.

We've had the US Elite Edition dvd of the original uncut for 10 years now so anyone who wants the remake can get the US unrated edtion and leave the UK rubbish on the shelf.

Anyone interested in a really gratuitous rape scene should check out the uncut version of Death Wish 2.
The UK version had the 7 minute rape scene cut down to about a minute.
Note that the Dutch dvd listed on Amazon as UNCUT (also in a boxset) is nothing of the sort.
It is the most cut version available with more snips than both the UK and US versions.
It's Australia for an uncut DW2

I won't. I'm poor , hate buying DVD's and too innocent for such scenes:eek:

I don't like the rape scene and think it is over the top. I thought the same of "irreversible" but was ok with "Baise Moi" .

Why would people be interested in gratuitous rape scenes?
Unles you meant from a BBFC inconsistency viewpoint?

i was at fright fest - i spit was on

its actually quite a good film, well made and acted.

they cut some of the rape but so what? i was on the FF forum and they were moaning about losing some of the rape. i felt like saying 'listen to yourselves..'

im sorry but having a rape scene cut for being too graphic is a good thing

there's a difference between violence and sexual violence

most people won't have experience of being chased and chopped up by a psyhco, but a fair few will have first or second hand experience of rape or sexual assault

i would question anyone wanting to see more of a rape scene...

the rape scene in straw dogs caused offence as they implied susan george ended up enjoying it.

hmmm a film directed by a man famed for his violence shooting a rape scene that the woman enjoyed..

Whenever people talk about rape scenes I always get an mental image of this clip from the comedy show The Soup shown on the E! Channel.

The news reporter on MSNBC is commenting on the controversial scene where 12 year old Dakota Fanning is raped in the film Hounddog (still not released on DVD in the UK). This is one of those times when you really need to have your brain in gear before you talk and say the wrong thing!

I've never seen that film so can't judge it but i have seen one clip from it on Youtube that made me feel really uncomfortable and it wasn't even the rape scene. So I can understand why it didnt get released on DVD here.

It's a complex and curious subject, rape, but whatever the 'science' and study of the phenomena, b-grade exploitation films don't ever add much to our understanding. That said, b-grade exploitation films aren't exactly interested in that, they're after money and are of the belief that zeroing on our primitive reptilian brains is the way to get it.

I don't really "get" the whole sexual violence issue censors seem to have.

It's that hoary old paranoia that people will do something that they see on screen, which even the BBFC's own study couldn't prove actually happens, and yet they allow explicit detail of violent murder that is infinitely worse than pretty much any rape.

The original I Spit On Your Grave was a truly atrocious film that like most of the cult/banned movies really doesn't deserve its place in history, but that's largely for artistic reasons not its subject matter.

The Straw Dogs was great :)

I thought (possibly mistaken) that the cut version of the rape scene implies not only that Susan George enjoys it, but that she takes it up the ricker too.

As for rape victims ultimately enjoying it, anyone seen High Plains Drifter?

That was part of the reason the BBFC never censored Straw Dogs for the cinema.
The MPAA cut the subliminal frame out of the second rape but the BBFC maintained this made the scene worse.

But after the video nasties joke the BBFC were frightened to pass any of that type of material and it wasn't until James Ferman left the BBFC that the film was finally passed for home video even though it had been legally available uncut on tape until around 1987.

Apparently the US Criterion Special Edition still has the MPAA frame missing.

The 2 disc German dvd version is the one to go for although a UK Bluray is on the carRAB but has been postponed several times over the last 2 years
