I sent a private message the first time on this

I recently bought a suzuki c50 boulevard from a private owner. I had a vulkan 50 LTD that I am probably going to sell.

I have only been averaging 30mpg with this suzuki, told the original owner and he said that about right? With my older 500cc I was averaging 48-50mpg.

Can anyone help me with this, because I noticed with the messages regarding gas mileage on this same model suzuki c50 boulevard, that everone is getting between 45-50mpg.

I have been riding for 14 years and I don't think its me causing this poor gas mileage.

HELP!

Sounds real low. My 2006 C50T with 13,000 miles on it (had it since new) goes from a low through the Colorado Rockies of 42 mpg to 53-55 mpg through the Kansas Plains. I guess average combined would be 47 - 49 city/hwy. By the way, in those 13,000 miles, the bike has been completely flawless with any issues at all, it is a fantastic bike and worth much more than the price they seem to go for.. Other than oil changes and tires, its still like new. I use Spectrum 4 Gold, synthetic blend with the oem filter, maybe thats part of the great mileage? Good luck!

30 MPG is too low. What mods have been done to the bike? Aftermarket pipes and a poor re-map of the FI controller will kill MPG, or you may have a problem with the FI system enriching the mixture too much, the equivilent of having the choke adjusted wrong on a carb. Or you could have clogged air filters, dirty injectors, a small fuel leak somehwere, or an out of adjustment rear brake that is dragging.

The only things that I am aware of that he told me he did to the bike was put a K & N air filter on it. Other then that I am not aware of anything else. The bike only has 4000 miles on it. It runs good but the gas mileage is eating me up. Have to fill up every 100 to 110 miles. He even told me that I shouldnt be using regular gas and should put premium in it, and I did this for 3 fill ups and the mileage is the same 30mpg.

Thanks for all of your input, am going to try to find a local dealer who has a dyno computer to remap it and see why my mileage is so bad.

I spoke to a friend of mine tonight with a harley, I believe 1400 cc, and he weighs in at a hefty 300lbs, and he told me he does an average of 40mpg. I weigh about 200lbs.

The bike has only 4000 miles on it and the only adjustments that he said he made was putting a new k & n air filter on it. He just changed the oil when i was there, and told me that he recently changed the plugs. When I told him that i was using regular gas, he told me that could be my problem, but I put
3 tankfuls of premium in it, and am still getting 30 mpg. The only other thing I remember him saying was that he did something to the stock exhausts to make them sound like a harley.

I am going to try to locate a dealer down here who has a computer, and maybe have him remap it.

I love the bike, but going from 48-50mpg with a 500cc to 30mpg with an 800cc is hard to swallow.

Thanks for all of your help and input.
