I saw Love Actually last night (no spoilers)

It was a daily telegraph preview.
It was much funnier than romantic comedies normally are.
Emma Tompson(?) was brilliant.
The trouble was trying to fit 10 love stories in to 2hours, it all seemed a bit jumbled at points, and yuo didn't get to see as much of some stories as you would like like the andrew lincoln/hugh grant ones. A lot of the time was focused on a twelve year old!
It is very chrismassy.
I was let down by the end as it's not all happy which is how I like my films but it's still worth seeing.
I'd give it 8 and a half out of 10!

It sounRAB a lot like a film from a few years ago "This Years Love", I remember Kathy Burke was in it. Can't remember who else. That was a montage of love stories, I found it rather dreary.
Has anyone seen them both, to compare?

Cant be as bad as "2 weeks notice!!!".... I cant wait to c "love actually" just need to try and persuade my bf to go with me!!!

I don't normaly like to see these 'girly' type films, but this one actually looks quite entertaining :o
Will be slipping into the cinema with my sister probably :p

the worst film someone has made me sit through is the league of extraordinary gentlemen... so I am owed a trip, but don't know what to pick!

aww... You should just batter your eyes at him and ask him nicely, I am sure he would oblige ;)
Yet to see revolutions, I am sure it can't be as bad as I have heard. The amazing graphics and Agent Smith will keep me entertained

too true - saw that on video recently - a lot of these romantic comedies, despite their cheesiness can be fairly enjoyable. *two weeks notice* was pretty lame tho', comapred to, say *how to lose a guy in 10 days* which was much more entertaining. and had kate huRABon in it.

saw *love actually* last night and really enjoyed it. it reminded me a bit of *holding on* - drama set in London on BBC2 a few years ago - in the way the characters were all kind of connected.

sure its a bit cheesy in parts, but never overly so - and Bill Nighy is brilliant in it. and keira knightley, well - just absolutely stunning.

I loved it and thought it was one of the funniest films I have seen this year :)

Plus Kiera Knightley is absolutely stunning. I could watch her all day :D

i've seen this twice now-i thought that it is half really good and half sickenenly mawkish

i really liked the rickman/thompson relationship and the best friend love triangle

Ar lass wanted to go see "Love Actually" tonight, so I agreed thinking it'd lead to a quiet life then earlier this week she said she was going to go see it with some frienRAB so she saw it last night. Great I thought - I don't have to sit through it!
But she really enjoyed it so she wants to go see it again tonight!

I mean - I rarely watch films I've seen before and she wants to see the same film twice in 2 days!

Please don't waste your retinas in seeing this movie.
The first scene (wedding march) had me actually in goosebumps at how thoroughly toe-curlingly excrutiatingly embarassed I felt for the writer/director. What planet does Richard Curtis live on if he thinks that kind of stuff is even remotely believable. The next scene that had me cringing was the Prime Minister's speech when the triumphant orchestral music kicked in I was very nearly sick.
It was interminable. I lost count of the number of similar experiences I had throughout this movie. I would have walked out after the first scene were it not for the fact I was with my girlfriend.
Compare the way the separate stories were intricately woven together in Pulp Fiction with the way in this film that a couple of stories are hung together by the fact that someone in one story is related by birth to someone in another story and then the rest which can't be worked in cleverly are clumsily stuck in place with the "All their children go to the same school - correction not even the same school as it was all the schools within the borough of WanRABworth" method. It was awful.
I'm not saying there weren't amusing scenes. I did laugh at some things I was meant to. The biggest laugh I had though was near the end when Liam Neeson (without trace of irony) says that he knows "a short cut".
A SHORT CUT. FROM WANRABWORTH TO HEATHROW. Yeah it's called the A4. Don't let that little gem of a rat run get out mate, you'll have everybody using it as a quick route from West London the the Airport. Short cut indeed.
Absolutely ludicrous from start to finish, weakly put together and some terrible lines to boot.
I want those hours of my life back and I'm prepared to take Curtis to court to get them. It was so bad I actually sought out a forum to air my grievances.
Welcome.

maybe it wasn't intended to be an oh-so clever Tarantino-esque interweaving of intricate storylines?

maybe it was just meant to be a light hearted bit of entertainment?

you can't surely on the one hand compare it unfavourably to Pulp Fiction, and then on the other criticise it for not being believable?

Iain

Well I really enjoyed it. Good mix of funny and serious moments and lots of comedic lines to laugh at.
Nice mix of characters and well, plus a cool soundtrack.

Seen it twice now for stupid reasons that i can't explain but this movie seemed more like a sketchbook than a painting. The cringe factor was astromnomical and the script seemed a little lazy but the film did have potential especially early on but then they forgot about sarah and carl. The little kid chasing that girl to airport (come on) was just horrible to watch.
