I saw a news report that said eating very little, being hungry, can help you live

But I thought satisfying your hunger was a good thing? Everything I heard prior to this news report suggested that you need to eat and fill yourself up (to some degree, not to the point of overeating but to find a happy medium).....

but this news report suggests "the less you eat, the better"...............

that's not what I remember learning.
 
what they mean is that you are supposed to stop eating when you are about to be full, not when you still feel hungry, which is what you first learned. i think some idiot thought that up and is trying to see how many other idiots will try it. don't believe it.
 
Some studies have shown that calorie restriction will result in a longer life.

Basically, you should worry most about the quality of the food you eat. Eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables in many different colors to ensure that you are taking in a wide variety of vitamins and other nutrients. Add some supplements and super foods. Exercise and get some sunshine, daily. Stay away from harmful addictions like smoking, drugs, and hard alcohol. It's pretty simple.
