Back story: I live in the city and was leaving home when I heard a struggle, I look down the outside basement stairs and a cat is batting around a little bird. I saved the bird brought it home to make sure it was alright. We have a big crate/cage from when we crate trained our dogs I layed newspaper down and a dish of water. I think its a fledgling Blue Jay. This was two nights ago. I went to the pet store yesterday and got mealworms and crickets he seems to be fine eating either whole. I can't put him back in the nest because he was at the bottom of a stairwell and I have no idea where the nest is, I can't just leave him outside in my yard cause I let my dogs out there they would surely eat the little guy.
My question is, how often do I feed it and how many mealworms and crickets, also will it get enough water from these insects/bugs or should i give him dog food softened with water? Or drops of water from a syringe?
