I replaced a blower fan resistor in a 2000 Ford Focus, why is the resistor overheating?

If it gets any hotter, the resistor will stop working. Does anyone know what the problem is, and how to fix it? Thanks.

Possibly your blower fan motor itself is getting bad, drawing enough amps to heat up the resistor and possibly the wiring but not enough to blow the fuse.

The blower motor may have a short in it causing the resister to over heat.

It could be the blower motor is drawing more current than it should.

Note: The blower resister is cooled by the incoming air to the heater plenum - if you're checking the resister outside of the box, it will surely overheat.
