I rented a brand new 2009 Hybrid Toyota Altima?

The remote car door opener was not working, so I called the car rental company and told them that if I manually locked the doors in the car, I would not be able to open the doors. At that time, I did not know about the little key that is held in side of he remote.

Enterprise told me to go buy a battery for the remote, which I did. The battery solved the problem, but there really should not have been a problem to begin with. The car only has 2,000. The engine starts by pushing a button in the car, so the whole car really depends on that remote.

My question is, if the remote is somehow defective and is draining a battery very quickly, what happens to the car when that battery life expires? Does the car suddenly stop on the road? Or will it effect only the remote car doors and windows? I would think that if the battery stops working, the whole car will not start. There is no place in an ignition to put a key to start the car.

Am I safe for my road trip tomorrow?

I think you are talking about a Nissan Altima, not a Toyota Altima.

Anyway, it sounds like the only problem you experienced is that the remote's battery died. That is not going to affect the car's main battery, and in fact there really is no way that a remote can drain a car's main battery since there is no power connection between them.

However, I don't know much about the button start in the Altima, and I suppose that it could depend on having a good battery in the remote. To be on the safe side, see if the manual for the car is in the glove box, and if it is, read up about the remote - I am sure they explain the way to start the car with the button, even if the remote's battery is dead.

well, enterprise should have replaced your battery , not the other way around, i think the safest way is to go back to enterprise and change for another car, say that you do not feel save drving this car. and they should change it for a different car,
its completley dumb that you have to buy the battery when they should have done that for you.

p.s. nissan makes altimas not toyotas
