I read a book about a teen girl who worked at a hospice and fell in love

with a guy there who painted? I can't remember the title of the book for the life of me and it's been 7 years so I can't remember too much. I know that the guy was real cranky to her at first but then they fell in love. I know the author was not lurlene mcdaniel. Anyone have any ideas?
