I pulled a long, "brown" worm like bug out of my dog, what is it?

I was petting my dog and noticed something.
I looked at it and saw it was "something" that was stuck to her. In her.
I pulled it with my fingers, nothing. She became agitated. I continued, despite her telling me not to.

Anyway, it was bothering me that this "something" was in her. I assumed it was a tick, my brother dismissed the idea of a tick and assumed it was just a twig or something non-insect like. I got a tweezer, grabbed it and pulled it. Screamed my head off, as it was a REALLY long (about a quarter inch or so (it was longer than it seemed)), worm-like THING! And smashed it.

What was it? After I calmed down. I continued to inspect her entire body and didn't find any other vermin.

What should I do? Is there something I can give her to protect her like Frontline Advantix(?) or a shampoo/conditioner to bathe her with?

Thank you for your assistance.

I think it caused by a fy laying its eggs on the dog i had the same thing to happen to a cat that a friend dropped at my house,it was a kitten in bad health it was so skinny andi was looking it over when i saw a little stream of fluid running down its shoulder i took a closer look and there was a small hole in it skin and then i saw something move i freaked out and took him to the vet and he ask me did i want to see what ws in my cat it looked like a short fat worm he said it was caused by a fly laying eggs on it and the egg hatches and then it is called bloat fly it does all of this still inside the animal he got one out and said he would be fine, as soon as i got home and i was petting him and telling him he was a good kitty i found another one so i called the vet and they was closing so he told me to get a pair of tweezers and just get a good hold on it an pull it out get someone to help i done it by myself it took me a long time to get it out i also stressed it out poor little thing just looked at me like it wanted to say give me a break ,i got it out but i had rather the vet do it next time

Was it in her skin?? Or in her bum? If it was in her bum then she has worms in her tummy, but I've never heard of worms in the skin
