I plan to test and check a used car that I intend to buy. Where can I do this?

Hi,

I intend to buy a used car and am planning to get a neutral opinion on the car and get it tested if everything (crucial things of the car) is fine, before I but it. I heard that Pep Boys does this sort of a check for 20-30 bucks but I called them and they said they don't do a thorough check that they used to, anymore. Can anybody suggest any other places that I can go to?
