I phone or Android? Do i need a Credit card?

Im looking into The i phone and Android, I think im going to get the I Phone but looking into both of them it says i need Credit approval or a Credit card or something like that.... I have no intention of ever getting a credit card. Nor have i ever had one.
Would a debit card work? I use PayPal. i just don't want a credit card.
