squeak in the floor. do I need to? repair a squeak I can't hear. and they complain about every sound. is there a guideline repairing a Joice is going to cost alot. unit is 14 years old

Floor squeaks are mostly caused by the plywood underlayment sliding up and down on the nails. Here is a system designed to screw floor back down tight thru an existing carpet.

Put down a rug or carpet. I know, its not really a solution, but it works. My friends live on the bottom floor and when the upstairs neighbors remodeled and removed the carpet it got really noisy. We could even hear them walking. There isn't a whole lot of options when you share floors and ceilings, but rugs tend to cushion the noise from above.

You might ask in what room they are hearing the squeak. It could even be water pipes making noises.

might just be a lose nail or screw, only needs to be a very small movement in the floorboard to create a squeak.
trying using a punch or screw driver on the nails/screws around where the squeak is coming from.
