4 seconds sounds ok.

If you want more seconds, switch them on, then on again before starting.

If it has poor starting, check the battery for capacity.
 
only stay on for 4 seconds? this makes starting the car very difficult first thing in the morning although ive fitted and tested new glo plugs has made no difference
