the plan would cost $1300 and extend the warranty to 70,000 miles bumper to bumper. i figure i will use the car for 3 more years and 30,000 miles. should i protect myself with the esp plan or take a chance that nothing major will happen in the next 30,000 miles. if i don't sign up by 36,000 miles end of initial warranty then i will not get a bumper to bumper deal that they are offering. should i go for the $1300 over 3 years?

I wouldn't do it.
The only reason to consider it is if your car has been an absolute piece of crap since you bought it.
I am guessing it has not since you said you want to keep it another 3 years.

There is probably a deductible attached to this warranty, as well, which means you will have to meet that every time you get it repaired.

Save your $1300 for when you need to get it fixed.

i have to agree with flanders, dealerships almost always rob you, replacing stupid things that dont need to be, overkill everything. chances are if you get the $13000 warranty you will never meet that in problems to be fixed. your better off setting some cash aside to the "just in case" funds and have that for a backup.
