Essential information: I have a skill of spotting couples in fiction long before they get together, and I relied upon it a lot as I read. I love/d it. I'm a shipper, couples getting together or just hints at them getting together is like my lifeblood.
Anyway, long story short: I was reading a story, when one side possible-couple caught my attention and I was very sure that they would end up together. An interview then came out with the author saying, concerning that side-possible-couple/half of it, that he didn't want to write that (romance). I was devastated, but after researching thoroughly, discovered it was a translation error, and in fact the author's words support the side-possible-couple, saying he "Wasn't willing to write about the part of their -note, referring to the two together, romantically- lives."
Of course, this soothed me a lot, but the damage was already done to my psyche.
I flinch every time I see their names, can't read fanfics for ANY couple, can't watch/read romance without getting doubts and it is DRIVING ME INSANE.
I think it's more of a fear of the Power of Authors. Since, you know, if they wanted, they could make any couple I like break up, or not happen, or worse. Even though the aforementioned author had not fault and it was a translation error, I can't get back my trust in writers not back stabbing us with characters not liking each other but it looking like them liking each other which doesn't make sense and sounds like it came out of a bad fic, but damnit, I'm insecure!!
(It didn't help that after the Mistranslation incident, I read a book, determined to re-install my faith in authors, only for the main couple break up in the end and lots of sick, twisted stuff happening in between.)
I can't even trust DISNEY films. DISNEY. EFFING DISNEY. I mean, I watched the Princess and The Frog, and though it was alright the first time, the second time I kept getting these doubts, because though I'd like to say Disney Couple's never break up just LOOK AT POCOHANTAS 2.
Yes, I know it's just fiction. Yes, I know I'm overreacting. But reading and watching and shipping overall is my only way of relaxing after a long, stressful day. I CANNOT relax without it.
Please, anyone with any knowledge about psychology, or heck, just a faint idea on what I should do- PLEASE HELP ME OUT.
