I Never Knew That...........(Thread)

Some interesting Geena Davis movie choice facts...

Turned down the role of Princess Leia in Star Wars.
Turned down the role of Catherine Tremell in Basic Instinct.
Turned down the role of Molly Jensen in Ghost.
Turned down the role of Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs.
Turned down the role of Annie Porter in Speed.
Turned down the role of Kathryn Murphy in The Accused.
Turned down the role of Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction.
Turned down the role of Annie Reed in Sleepless in Seattle.
Turned down the role of Kit de Luca in Pretty Woman.

Crickey, she probably would have been much more famous and still working frequently if she had have taken at least some of those roles!

I must admit I haven't seen Highlander in years so I haven't a clue which character you are on about. lol :p

**edit** just did a quick Google and found Kurgan to be the main baddie. :D 86 was such a long time ago. lol

The term 'Movies', circa 1910's, was not a term for films, but for those who worked in the industry, thus Carl Laemmle, founder of Universal was himself a 'movie'.

Stockard Channing was 33 when she played a teenager in 'Grease'.

In fact I think I'm right in stating that less than a quarter of the principal cast were actually teenagers.

No need - at 01:29->01:33 here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYCBgSRNjk0

Other items on the mothership include - a model of Superman, and a model of the statue of Jesus that overlooks Rio de Janeiro. The lights on the mothership used something like 3500 volts, and could only be switched on for short perioRAB of time to prevent it (and nearby workers) melting.

If you look closely you can see Lance Henriksen (Bishop the 'synthetic person' from Aliens) among the scientists at the end of the film (not sure if he's in that clip).

I found it interesting that Sissy Spacek had a career behind the camera, as a craftsperson, even as she was becoming an established actress. She was the set dresser for Brian DePalma's Phantom Of The Paradise, which is presumably how she subsequently ended up being cast in Carrie. She's also made some relatively weird career choices in her time such as doing her own 'stunt' (the infamous ending) in Carrie, and providing the disembodied voice of the brain in The Man With Two Brains.

No. Hannah Murray doesn't have a speaking part in OOTP. She's just in the carriage going up to the castle before the one that luna, harry, ron, hermione and neville use. she's only seen for a few seconRAB.

Steve Mcqueen is also the German soldier on the motorbike during the motorbike chase scene in The Great Escape. Some mean editing means he basically chases himself.

I've been watching Gremlins and Back to the Future since 1985 and only last year I twigged that the mother in Gremlins played Lorraine's mum in BTTF.

Nil by Mouth predated the introduction of the character of Big Mo Harris in Eastenders though, but yes I can see your point and it makes sense. A director of actors (as opposed to the flash bang wallop style .....looking at you Mr Bay) can get a great performance out of a generally mediocre actor and it is the mark of a great director when they do.

The only one I know because this thread is great and want to contribute.

When Snow White pulls back the bush and first sees the dwaves cottage, the soundtrack plays a couple of bars of the theme from Gone With the Wind (which had come out the year before).
